How to install an SSL certificate in cPanel

Where each file goes in the cPanel SSL/TLS manager, how to fix the missing chain warning, and how to force https.

After validation you receive three things: your certificate (yourdomain.crt), the CA bundle (chain), and the private key is already on your server from the CSR step. Here is where each one goes.

Install in cPanel

  1. Open cPanel, go to SSL/TLS, then Manage SSL sites.
  2. Select your domain from the list.
  3. Certificate (CRT): paste the text of yourdomain.crt. cPanel usually finds the private key automatically and fills the next box.
  4. Private Key (KEY): if it is not filled in, open SSL/TLS, Private Keys, and copy the key that was created with your CSR.
  5. Certificate Authority Bundle (CABUNDLE): paste the CA bundle text. If you received several .crt files, paste the intermediate ones here, one after another.
  6. Click Install Certificate.

Force https

In cPanel, open Domains and switch on Force HTTPS Redirect. If your cPanel does not have it, add the redirect rules from our HTTPS redirect generator to the .htaccess file in public_html.

Test it

Run the SSL checker. It confirms the chain is complete and the certificate matches your domain. If the padlock is still missing, run the Why No Padlock tool to find http links inside your pages.
