All three types encrypt traffic the same way. The difference is how much the certificate authority checks about who you are before issuing the certificate.
DV: Domain Validation
The CA only checks that you control the domain. You confirm by email, by adding a DNS record, or by uploading a file. No documents, no phone call. Issued in 5 to 30 minutes.
Best for: blogs, portfolios, small business sites, landing pages, WordPress sites on shared hosting.
OV: Organization Validation
The CA checks the domain and also verifies that your company exists. In Pakistan that means your SECP incorporation certificate or FBR NTN, a business address and a working phone number. Your company name is written inside the certificate, and visitors can see it in the certificate details. Issued in 1 to 3 working days.
Best for: registered companies, online stores, software houses, schools, hospitals, NGOs.
EV: Extended Validation
The strictest check. The CA verifies legal existence, physical address, phone, and the identity of the person who signed the request. EV certificates carry the highest warranties. Issued in 1 to 5 working days.
Best for: banks, payment gateways, fintech apps, large e-commerce, government portals.
